Tapestry is located in the City of Lake Elmo, a community of about 8,500 about 10 miles east of downtown St. Paul. Public school students attend Rutherford Elementary School, Oak-Land Junior High School and Stillwater Area High School. There are also several private and charter schools located nearby.

The plan for the Tapestry community includes 65 home sites, dispersed across 170 acres. A significant portion of the total development is set aside as a permanent conservation easement, co-managed by the Minnesota Land Trust and the City of Lake Elmo. These preservation areas provide a rural community with great views and natural areas to be enjoyed by all the residents. There are also over three miles of improved trails for walking and biking. In addition to the open space within the development, the south boundry of Tapestry adjoins Sunfish Lake Park. Sunfish Lake Park is 284 acres of rolling oak forest with gentle ridges separating several ponds. The park provides hiking and cross country skiing trails, horseback riding, canoeing and picnicing.

The community shares a common wastewater and sewage treatment system constructed in accordance with standard approved by the City of Lake Elmo. This system provides the sewer services customarily provided by a municipality. The operation and maintanence of the system is managed by the Tapestry Community Association. The development is served with city water from Lake Elmo's municipal wells.
